Meditations Volume 1: solo piano for anxious learners

from Nicholas Chase

Sheet Music + Digital Album

A performer sitting at the piano keys is presented with an excellent opportunity for sonic meditation. We hear the instrument very differently than the audience. We get the experience of waiting long minutes for the piano sound-board to stop vibrating with the sound of a single note. The concept of playing music as a meditation is not new. The Zen practice of Honkyoku comes to mind.

This is a collection of 7 original works for solo piano and 5 miniatures that are easy enough for beginning to intermediate learners or players. The tempos are variable, flexible, the notation varies from free to precise. These are piano pieces I've played myself, including the first transcription of one of the improvisations I performed live on IGTV during the first months of the 2020 Pandemic.

The book includes 25 pages of music professionally printed on beautiful, heavy-weight, ecru paper, saddle-stitched with a glossy cover. Inside is an introduction explaining how the pieces were written and insight on how to approach them.
